TacT TCS is,quite simply, the world ’s most advanced and flexible Theater Control System.Designed to handle surround and stereo with equal ease,it is worthy of a place alongside the very finest audiophile stereo preamplifiers.TacT TCS combines proprietary room correction, digital processing power and extreme simplicity of use in the most versatile controller ever. The most striking feature of the TCS is TacT ’s exclusive Room Correction System (RCS),hailed as the most important advance in audio in decades.Only TacT Room Correction technology can “dial out ” the sonic anomalies of your listening space and fully and independently optimize your system for both music and home cinema at the flick of a switch. In spite of its wealth of features,TCS is among the simplest home theatre processors to install and operate with an automated procedure for set-up,calibration and programming
in less than one hour. The TCS system includes TacT PC software and a calibrated
measurement microphone.A PC is needed for initial installation. After set-up,the system is self-contained with its
own IR remote control. The TCS can be used with TacT digital amplifiers for an all- digital system,or with conventional analog amplifiers.TCS in combination with TacT digital amplifiers offers unique benefits, such as a 27 dB Increase in dynamic range over conventional amplifiers, significant reductions in noise and distortion, etc. RCS Room Correction
The TacT Room Correction System is a fully integrated measurement and correction system developed to let you optimize the performance of your speakers in your listening room.
Put simply,TacT RCS measures a specially designed test signal reproduced in your room by your audio system and
then analyzes the differences in both the frequency and time domains between the ideal desired response and the actual measured response.Based on this data,TacT RCS calculates and implements corrective algorithms to
permanently compensate for any undesired contribution from your system and room.
Digital Home Theater Correction!
TacT Room Correction effectively optimizes the performance of your equipment while eliminating the sonic damage caused by room acoustics.Even the best rooms have profound negative impact on the sound quality of high performance loudspeakers. It is not uncommon for the best loudspeakers to be within 1.5 dB of ideal frequency response over a very wide range, representing an acceptable deviation of less than 20%.
But put those audiophile speakers in a real-world room and suddenly peak-to-peak deviation exceeds 20 dB,a factor of
100 in terms of power. In more familiar terms, this is distortion of many thousand percent.Clearly, major damage is being
done, dwarfing all other kinds of distortion in any audio system.
How can the room make such a mess of the sound? In any room with solid walls, sound builds up in an extremely
complex pattern.Across the lower five octaves, response will be totally dependent on the placement of the speakers ’
position relative to room boundaries and the placement of the listening position relative to the speakers as well as to room boundaries. The most overwhelming problems are standing waves and cancellations.Standing waves occur in any
enclosed space and their magnitude and frequency are determined by the geometry of the room.Depending on frequency and Q-factor,standing waves build up and decay over time.It is not uncommon to have standing waves that
take a full second to build up and even longer to decay.
Cancellations,on the other hand, usually occur quicker and are less audible. This means that the room is constantly distorting the sound, not only in the frequency domain, but also in the time domain.
The direct arrival of sound from your speakers can be generally flat, while the delayed interaction from the room will
generate the problems. This is exactly why conventional equalizers (digital or analog)cannot correct these problems,
simply because they operate only in the frequency domain. TacT room correction technology also addresses the time
domain. With a stereo system,it is possible to achieve acceptable results,of one possesses considerable skill in finding the “sweet spots,” the ideal positions for listener and speakers..
You should consider yourself lucky, however,if you get to within (5 dB of the desired response (still a total deviation of
1,000%).With a multi-channel system,it becomes even more difficult to optimize seating arrangements for all the speakers involved.Even in the most careful installation, each speaker will have wildly different response.
The TacT TCS corrects for both time and frequency problems with incomparable accuracy. The frequency domain alone would require an equalizer with 10,000 bands to achieve the correction resolution of the TCS.
The Sound of the Future,Today!
The audible benefits of TacT Room Correction have been widely acclaimed by the press:stunning improvements in
imaging, depth of perspective, dynamic contrast, top to bottom Fully modular internal layout allows easy,cost-effective
upgrades.

TCS PHOTO
coherency, removal of unwanted resonance, etc. As one enthusiastic reviewer wrote of the TacT RCS 2.0:“The walls melted away.I was transported to the performance. The speakers disappeared.A veil was lifted … These cliches accurately describe the RCS ’ removal of my listening room ’s superimposed character.” The transformation is far more dramatic than anything else you could do to improve your audio system.
The correction system will store nine completely different settings allowing you to create one frequency response algorithm ideally suited to Home Theater, another optimized for two-channel music listening, one for background listening, one for parties, etc. You could even create genre-specific algorithms, for instance, one with boosted bass for blues, reggae and techno,if you are so inclined. For the first time in any domestic system, you no longer have to live with compromises and trade-offs between stereo and home cinema or between your varied musical tastes. TCS -The Audiophile Approach The design and layout of TCS ensures that there are absolutely no compromises in sound quality, even in comparison to the ultimate two-channel products made by TacT.
Power Supply
The TCS power supply incorporates triple-stage suppression of AC noise,as do all TacT products,in order to deliver state of the art performance despite noisy and distorted AC voltage.Ground planes are separated and the digital and analog circuits have completely separate secondary supplies.
AD/DA Conversion
Conversion from analog to digital and digital to analog is accomplished with sophisticated 24-bit converters that support sampling rates from 44.1 to 96 kHz.
48-Bit DSP
All digital signal processing is carried out with a 48-bit word length,so that Room Correction, time delay, volume control,
etc.can be performed in the digital domain without noise or distortion.
Well Connected
All inputs and outputs are buffered.Balanced and single- ended analog inputs and outputs are available.Digital outputs are available for all 10 channels.
Computer Interface
The RS-232 communications port allows convenient software updates, including sound quality upgrades. The RS-232 cable TCS.When a TacT amplifier is used, the TCS will send control signals to the amplifier ’s power supply to control the volume level. This allows the preamplifier section to retain full digital resolution at lower volume settings, while increasing dynamic range by 27 dB.In addition, the RS-232 ports can be used in combination with Home Automation Systems and will allow daisy chaining for multiple components.
Time Delay Correction
Ideally, the arrival time of direct sound from the loudspeakers in a system should be precisely equal at the listening position. To achieve this nearly impossible goal,TacT room correction employs ultra-precise automatic time delay correction to within 0.01 millisecond (the time it takes for sound to travel 1/8 of an inch),far more precise than other systems that rely on cumbersome manual distance measurements and crude time correction.
DSP-based Electronic Crossover
The 10-channel TCS configuration incorporates electronic crossovers for the front left and right channels. The crossover frequencies can be set from 60 Hz to 400 Hz with crossover slopes from 12 dB/octave to 60 dB/octave.Because both the time and frequency deviations are corrected, the crossover operates as an integral part of the room correction process for seamless integration of the subwoofers and mid/high speaker systems at the actual listening position, unlike the randomly selected filter values found in other so-called high end products.Via the bass management system,LFE (Low Frequency Effects)information can be sent to left and right subwoofer channels so that a dedicated LFE subwoofer is not required. The electronic crossover can also greatly improve the sound of large bi-amplifiable speakers as long as the lowest crossover of the speaker is at 400 Hz or below.
TacT Surround Center
The 10-channel TCS configuration includes TacT Audio ™s proprietary center rear channel to improve rear imaging and to fill in the gap in the rear surround soundfield. An exclusive TacT algorithm derives the mono information from left and right rear channels and directs it to the center rear channel.
This is done within the DSP ’s with no increase of noise or distortion and is compatible with all surround formats.
Bass Management
With almost unlimited flexibility,TCS redefines the possibilities of bass management. All channels, including the LFE channel, are individually controlled and can be directed to any of the other channels. In combination with the correction system, the bass management module provides extreme flexibility -especially when the system consists of both large and small speakers -offering individually configurable
crossovers and channel assignment. With support for up to 10 channels including 3 subwoofers (TCS10.0 &8.0),the TCS offers virtually unlimited adaptability.
Dolby Digital and DTS
All surround decoding is performed in a separate module that can be easily exchanged,as new formats emerge. The state of the art processors are implemented with the best possible sound quality as the single highest priority.
Battleship Build Quality
The TCS chassis consists entirely of CNC-machined aluminum fine-tooled to extremely tight tolerances that set a new standard for the audio industry. For the ultimate in structural integrity, not a single piece of bent metal has been used. The# unique volume wheel that encircles the distinctive center display runs on precision dual 68 mm bearings.Volume information is optically encoded so that no degradation can occur over time. The 1.6"thick front panel is machined from a single billet of solid aluminum.
“Room correction should be a mandatory part of any serious audio system. In the future,it will be.”

Room Distortion &Correction
The diagram displays measured left channel response in a typical
listening room (blue, upper curve)along with the corresponding
correction curve (green, lower curve)produced by the TCS to
compensate for room distortion. When the corrected signal is
played back, the result is linear frequency response.
The diagram displays the measured response of Left (white curve)
and Right (Yellow curve)channels in a listening room overlaid with
the target curve (green). This screen-shot is taken from the Target
Curve Editor -a software package that allows the user to create
and modify the correction target curves, similar to a drawing
program with click-and-drag control.
